A group called Gbomo Palace NDC youth in Tamale is calling for a change of Presidential candidate to retain the party in power come the 2012 general elections. The group expresses worry that President John Atta Mills' leadership style might cause the NDC's shocking defeat in 2012 if he is retained as the Presidential candidate. Mohammed Maigah, Secretary to the Gbomo Palace NDC youth group dropped this bomb shell at a well attended news conference held in Tamale behind the victory cinema. The group chronicled several reasons why President Mills should be changed in 2012 among which it said gallant party foot soldiers whose toil and suffering returned the NDC to power in 2008 have been disillusioned. "We the members of Gbomo Palace in Tamale considers disappointing and unacceptable the path that President Mills ' government is leading the NDC as a result of which we are calling for sober reflections on issues affecting the NDC youth," he explained. Mohammed Maigah reaffirmed the description of President Mills' Ministers and DCE's as mediocre government functionaries and that some of them have suddenly become arrogant in dealing with the party foot soldiers. "Some of the government functionaries have distanced themselves from the foot soldiers whom they worked with in the run up to the 2008 elections that brought the NDC back to power which ultimately made them what they are today: some of them have suddenly become arrogant and are not ready to even answer our phone calls," he said. The Gbomo Palace NDC youth group further condemned the National Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei's assertion that the foot soldiers were unknown to the NDC. The group interpreted Dr. Kwabena Adjei's statement to mean that the party does not recognize foot soldiers whose problems needed remedial solutions.
